Free Download - Hannah Westcombe Needlecase Cover Project

Shepherd's Bush made a splendid job of framing Hannah Westcombe and the associated projects at their retreat when I was there - I felt really proud. But perhaps not everyone has the patience to stitch this sampler and so I am going to let you cheat a little - shhhh, don't tell anyone I said that, will you? You can either print this download on paper or card and use it to craft a cover for a needlecase - or whatever object takes your fancy, perhaps a little memo book. Or, you can print it onto fabric. There is A4 bonded fabric available for printing with ink jet printers or you can use magic freezer paper. I use the freezer paper you can see on this label. I purchased it on eBay and it works wonderfully for me. The fabric I use for printing on is a thin ecru cotton, but any plain polycotton sheets that you can sometimes buy cheaply in a thrift store are good for cutting up and experimenting with for this sort of project. All you have to do is cut a piece of fabric larger than the freezer paper and lay it on the shiny side of the paper, then press it with a hot dry iron until the fabric is well and truly adhered to the paper - taking special care that edges and corners are well stuck. Next, trim the fabric to the paper. Then print on the fabric side of paper and when printed peel the freezer paper off the fabric and you are ready to start stitching the cover of your needlecase. And because it was that easy, you might like to consider a little overstitching on the printed cloth - just to make it your own as I know this is something, from the gifts and pictures you send me, at which you really excel! Just click here for your download. And maybe you will send me a picture of your creation - I'd love to see.

  2. I'd really love to hear how you get on - because we can create more projects using printed fabric like this for you - you have to be a bit creative in putting things together - I'm reluctant to be too directive. But the joy is that you can experiment and find your own way, because you can have an infinite number of tries...dare to dream...and see what beauty you are capable of.

  3. I'm off to ebay to find some freezer paper. I also thought this could be printed onto card to make floss drops too!
